Sparkle Readers: emergent level with 2 lines of text
Welcome to January 2013! Here are four new readers to add some
"sparkle" to those chilly winter months. These readers are more complex but still contain repetitive text with a focus on the sight words "This is..." Both fiction and non fiction stories have been provided which are crucial when implementing the new Common Core Standards. Students use a variety of skills when interacting with each reader. There is a strong focus on contextualizing sight words and building academic vocabulary and information on the arctic. Sentence strip builders have also been provided for each story so that students can practice building the text in a pocket chart to build confidence as well as fluency.
Here are the January titles included in this huge packet:
1. This Is A New Year: This reader focuses on learning the sequence of the months and identifying numbers in various patterns.
2. This Is Winter: Students have an opportunity to cut and paste winter clothing into their reader and also do some guided drawing.
3. This Is the Arctic: This little book is about animals that live in the arctic. Some will be familiar and others will be new and more challenging. Students love books with animals in them. This one allows them to draw the setting on each page.
4. Winter Teens: Your students are given an opportunity to practice writing the teen numbers, reading them as words, and creating matching quantities in 10 grids to make it interactive. This is another way to practice this difficult skill.
Please note that I have many other sets of readers for purchase. Be sure to visit my blog for other literacy ideas.
If you are starting a winter theme this set will surely add some sparkle to your program.
Happy New Year friends!
