This unit covers the entire novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It includes introductory vocabulary, discussion questions, and author's craft (characterization, symbolism, literary devices, etc.) hand-outs with teacher answer keys. Each "marking period" or section of the book has a different writing activity and finally there is a culminating group project in which students create a project that has real world implications for their peers through researching teen crisis issues and offering outreach information to deal with such issues. There are no quizzes or tests. The assessments are more project/discussion based.
I really like how you have this set up--the vocabulary, the comprehension questions, etc. It is a very thorough plan.

I have a question about the vocabulary section. Did you assign students to define the words or did you give the students the words already defined?

I would suggest you pick a handful of words that you think your students could figure out using context clues and simply introduce those words to the students and ask them to look for those words as they read. The rest of the words, go ahead and define before reading.
