Many students are visual learners and need a visual clue or reminder to the many phonics/spelling rules they need to master to become successful readers. This set of cards will provide students a visual clue to remind them of spelling patterns and rules to help them with their reading, spelling, and writing.
These 78 cards correlate to the skills taught in the Scott Foresman Reading Street reading series for first grade. However, these cards can be used with any phonics, spelling, or reading series as they cover the most basic skills that all students need to learn. These cards could be used with kindergarten, first grade, second grade or even third graders who may be struggling.
Covered are: CVC words, CVCe words, CV words, inflected endings, compound words, contractions, diphthongs, initial blends, final blends, diagraphs, prefixes, suffixes, and more. Please view the preview file to see a complete list of the patterns/rules covered.
A lot of time and effort was put into making these cards. I wanted to have a visual for every phonics concept I am required to teach. My students have found these useful to refer to. I hope you find them useful as well!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching for seven years. I taught in a 2nd and 3rd grade multiage class for one year. I ran our school computer lab and taught technology lessons to all students in K-5 for two years. The 2012-2013 school year will be my fifth year teaching first grade, and love it!
