Join St. George, Queen Elizabeth II, Winston Churchill, William Shakespeare and John Lennon in this celebration of England and its great cultural heritage. This play script is for 6 speakers (aforementioned plus narrator) and comes with background knowledge to each, plus quiz.
Added to this play script is “Ode to St. George”, which can be read together by the whole class. This ode questions St. George’s ‘credentials’ as patron saint of England – a man who had not a drop of English blood in his body and had never, as far as we know, stepped foot in our land. He is set the task of petitioning Whitehall for a national holiday on April 23rd – whilst convincing our politicians of England’s ‘greatness’ – surely not too challenging, when given the list of ‘assets’ our country has, both historically and in the present?

I taught in the U.K. for 15 years - temporary and permanent positions plus supply/substitute teaching. I taught all year groups at primary/elementary level and have done some substitute teaching since arriving in the USA. My degree was in History so I always particularly enjoyed teaching this subject, and creating class plays/assemblies around what I was teaching in the classroom - whether it be Ancient Egyptians or King Henry VIII and his Six Wives!
