(9 pages) Most of our students are surprised to see the great differences in size between stars. Of special interest is the size of our Sun compared to other familiar stars such as Betelgeuse (whose name is known by many/most students). We have included 3 activities
In the first activity, students will compare the size of our Sun to the sizes of other well known stars by drawing circles of different diameters to represent the different stars. Students will color code each star according to its temperature/class. All necessary info is provided.
In the second activity, the average size of the seven different classes of stars are compared to the size of our own Sun. Students will again draw and color code scaled circles.
A third activity is included so that students can research the locations and characteristics of some of the stars included in the earlier activities.
* This is the same activity as "Star Sizes & Classes"
THIS IS AMAZING ! The amount of work done with this project is impressive ! With CCSS coming I have to teach Stars in science and this was exactly what I was looking for - you saved me a lot of time !

I haven't used this yet, but plan on it in the next week. It fits perfectly with my standards!
This activity was very interesting for my 8th grade students. I differentiated it for 6th grade students by having them make circles out of colored paper according to the star sizes specified in this activity.
