This is a handy record book to keep track of what words each student has mastered. You can use it many different ways but I have found it the most helpful by having the students color the box next to the word when the word is introduced. Then everyday they must read all the words that have been introduced if they struggle with a word or aske for help they can put a ? in pencil in the 2nd column if they read it correctly with no help they can color the mastered column. This allows the student to take ownership of their reading. I have also used it with putting dates in the columns so that I have record of how long it took the student to master each word.
The reason it is titled star student is I have student record binders that are my star student binder where the student keep track of their own progress and goals. I then have a small section where I keep track of information I need giving the students ownership and a central place to go check progress on each student. Watch on teachers pay teachers for more star student record keeping.
