This is a book my students use while learning about the states of matter. It talks about different examples, the movement of the molecules, properties of the states of matter, and changes of matter.
**Updated on 3/2/2012 with corrections to the last page**
**Updated on 3/5/2012 to include 5 pages to go along with various experiments that you can read about on my blog**
can't wait to fill it up with second graders.great space avaiable for writing also

This will work PERFECTLY with our new unit coming up! Thank you so much for your creativity and including several aspects of matter within the booklet!!!
I just downloaded your unit on matter and was wondering what you do with the cheese and orange and whay the mystry substance is?? And what are your ides for the last page, "Creating Something new?" One more thing, How do you use the "Let's make a Prediction?" page? What are they trying to preict?
Thanks so much! It really is cute!!! I just want to use it correctly.
If you ever need to reference this, I have a post about it on my blog at: http://thelocoteacher.blogspot.com/2012/03/im-90s-kid.html
The Cheese - I shred the cheese with a grater so it goes from a solid to a solid.
The Orange - I cut it open, so it is still a solid. But then I squeeze the juice from it so it is now also a liquid.
The mystery substance is pudding. The mix is a solid and the milk is a liquid, and we discuss what state of matter the end result is.
I use the Let's make a Prediction page for the experiments we do. So if we were changing a solid into a liquid (ice into water), I would have them write and draw the steps of the experiment. So they would draw the materials in the beginning (ice). Then they would predict what was going to happen when I explain the experiment, such as adding heat. Then they would draw what the end result was when the experiment was over (water). The last box is for them to explain if their prediction was correct or not.
Creating something new was just an additional page if you have further experiments you would like to personally do.
I hope that helps! I apologize again for my late response.
I love making little books, but sometimes I can't always do them because I don't have time to put cute ones together. Thank you for this wonderful resource to add to my unit! Thank you thank you thank you!
Great! I'm always happy to share what I have. I'll be posting an all about matter matching activity my mini-locos use later this week - watch out for that if you are still needing some stuff for your stash.

Thank you for this resource. I am right in the middle of teaching my matter unit, so these materials will fit my lessons perfectly!!

Not sure if this is a dumb question or not, but what do you use on the pages that say examples....magazine pictures, printouts, or draw the objects? Also, it says to use your molecule pieces to show what they look like. Is there a place that I can find those? Thanks so much.

I love your States of Matter Student book. My third graders would absolutely love it. However, when I downloaded it, the document was blurry. I have a Mac computer for school. Is there any chance you could email me the document at lisa.jacquemin@edgewoodschools.net?
Is this still a problem? I hope it's been remedied.

Hi! Thanks so much for sharing this matter resource. I think the last page of the book should be about changing a gas in two ways, but the word in the box says 'solid.' Then the first sentence mentions changing a gas, but the second sentence says solid again. The matter book is amazing! I just wanted to let you know about the last page.
Oh my goodness! I just updated it to the final copy. I am so sorry, I don't know how that happened. It's corrected now. Thanks a million for letting me know.
