This is a 30-slide Power Point Unit. It introduces what a retelling is, why it is important, and how it should be written. The second focus dives into the story elements and how they are related to a retelling.
It includes a complete modeled practice using the book Too Many Tamales by Gary Soto. (This is a very common book. Many of you may already have it in your classroom, home or school, otherwise the library is sure to have it.)
There is a guided review and a suggested independent practice to end the unit.
The power point uses picture cues throughout which are correlated with my Story Elements and Retelling Packet also available for sale. You do not need this for the power point, but it is more effective and complete when used together.
I have used this technique for teaching Story Elements and Retelling for many years. It has been extremely effective with my students.
Hope you have success with this too! Rebecca@ReadingInnovations (check out my website for more reading resources www.readinginnovations.com)
