The point is to understand the concept of stream of consciousness writing – James Joyce, Virginia Woolf- but, also, to understand how the technique helps in relating a convincing, cohesive personal narrative.
This lesson can be used as an anticipatory set activity prior to teaching a "stream of consciousness" style work or as a summative quiz for a lesson on personal narratives.
Ultimately, students should recognize that combining all sentences on the activity sheet should create a cohesive sentence.
