A fun way to practice breaking numbers down into hundreds, tens, and ones. Students generate numbers using a deck of ordinary playing cards from 2 to 9. As they randomly flip over 3 cards, they write the number as a 3-digit number, then stretch it out by listing how many hundreds, tens, and ones and what each of those place values equals. The possibility of the random numbers generated is endless, so this activity can be used again and again, even by the same students.
