Do your students desire to be the teacher? During this project, the students have the opportunity to teach their classmates something new. The overall focus of the project is writing and giving clear, detailed directions. There are two parts to the project: part one has students write a "How to" paper and part two is doing a demonstration speech.
This is a great project for many reasons. Students love to be active learners, the projects are fun, and teachers can evaluate both speaking and writing skills as well as meet many of the language arts benchmarks. Included in the 15 pages are lesson plans, organizational handouts for students, a rubric for grading and much more. (The handouts are so detailed and the writing straight forward, this can be a great writing/speaking project for special education students as well.)

6th grade: Math, Science, Communication Arts (Reading and Language Arts) 7th Grade: Math & Communication Arts I have worked with all types of students (gifted, special ed., and at-risk). Piloted two cutting edge programs for the district The Six Computer Classroom: I was given 6 computers to use in my classroom as a test to see how to incorporate technology more effectively into the every day lessons. I later became a trainer for other teachers on how to effectively use 6 computers in the classroom as well as developed organizational tools for teachers to aid in their planning. I also presented at the “The Governor’s Wisconsin Educational Technology Conference” Determination House: A program that grouped 65 at-risk students together with the goal of increasing their reading level a minimum of two or more years in a one year time period. This was achieved by teaching students strictly according to their learning style. I was trained in teaching students using the multiple intelligence, specifically using strategies that worked with left-brained students. Later I worked as a consultant writing lessons and providing input for an 8th grade group of teachers working to achieve the same goals. I also presented at an at-risk conference sharing the results we achieved through this unique grouping and teaching methods. Other information: mentor teacher, former member of the districts "Differentation Leadership Team", Literacy Team, Technology Team, etc.
