Are you going to be teaching 2-digit subtraction with regrouping? This is a tricky concept to teach ~ but not with this unit! This is a 2 week, must-have math packet! Your students will love the cute jungle theme, too! This unit will help you to teach your students how to regroup one step at a time. By breaking the steps down and introducing them slowly you will guarantee your students' success. Then put the steps together to actually do regrouping ~ you will be so excited to see the light come on!
Week 1:
During week one you will complete a page together as guided practice. Since you are teaching a new step each day the math tubs can not cover a new skill. With this in mind I have included 5 math tubs that give the students extra practice with 2-digit subtraction without regrouping. Since the children will be completing a worksheet with you and then a math tub activity ~ I made the math tub activities shorter and they will only have 9 questions to do. You don't want them to feel overloaded.
Each math tub comes with cute, colourful question cards and a recording sheet (with black and white graphics so it copies clearly).
Math Tubs: (label cards included)
*Going On A Lion Hunt!
*Bear Crazy For Subtracting!
*Stop Monkeying Around and Subtract!
*Parrot Perfect Subtracting!
*Subtraction Stripes!
Week 2:
Now the excitement begins! Your students will feel so grown-up while they put their new skills to work. I have included a daily warm-up page with 4 questions, per day, to be done together as a group. It is good review before your students begin their math tub for the day. I have included 5 math tubs for your students to have independent practice with 2-digit subtraction with and without regrouping. All the student sheets are done in a place value chart so that your students can keep the steps better organized. I have my students highlight the ones column so they remember where to start. Each center has adorable, colourful question cards and a student response sheet.
Math Tubs: (label cards included)
*Happy Hippo Subtracting!
*Slithering Into Subtracting!
*Toucan Subtract!
*Super Subtraction Safari!
I am not fan of loose sheets so I staple together a copy of the tracking sheet and a copy of all the worksheets together to make a booklet. I record any observations I make about the child and after marking their daily work I record how they did each day. This is a great way to give your students constructive daily feedback. At the end of the week I send the booklet home for the parents. They really appreciate being kept up-to-date on their child's progress and the booklets are a great review for the end of unit test. You can always keep the tracking sheet for documentation as well.
Please have a look at the preview so that you can see everything that is included. I have done all the work for you ~ you will have an entire unit ready in no time!
I know you won't be disappointed with this unit!
I would love it if you followed me at Natalies Nook ~ you are automatically notified every time I post something new.
I was looking for additional resources for a booster group I'm forming. This is great! I really think it will help students struggling with regrouping.

This is every bit as good as Aar You Ready to Learn Addition with Regrouping. Your work is terrific!
I love the assignments and centers to help students understand regrouping and subtracting. These activities were awesome to help my secondary functional special ed students!
This step by step introduction to regrouping was just what my second graders needed! I purchased your similar addition unit and was equally impressed. I'm a fan!!!
I purchased your addition with regrouping unit. I must tell you when I used your unit with manipulatives, it was like a light bulb turned on. I can't wait to use this unit.
