This is a challenging one-page worksheet to challenge your students' synonym and/or thesaurus skills. Students are given a list of 30 summer words and challenged to list a synonym for each. Some may be easy (like popsicle), but some will require more thought (like Sun). A student may get creative to come up with a word or short phrase that is synonymous, or use a thesaurus and practice reference and research skills. You might have a contest to see who can list the most synonyms or who can come up with the most creative solutions for the tricky ones.
This is a great activity for those days at the end of the school year when you have used up workbook pages and put away textbooks. This would be a good page to use for morning work (bellwork), homework, early finishers, enrichment, a language arts center (with a thesaurus), sponge activity, or a sub folder.

I have been a public school teacher in a highly respected district in the Atlanta metro area for the past 11 years. I have taught very diverse students, usually all together in one group! After teaching fourth grade for ten years, I am now teaching a computer lab special to 3 and 4 year olds, and loving it! I am also the technology coordinator for my public, special needs school. You never know what changes life will bring!
