This is a letter I send home with my students during the first week of school. The document is editable, so you can change any details you need to make it work for your classroom. It explains the Super Reader program that we use in our classroom to improve our comprehension and oral reading skills. The letter also specifices which day of the week each child will read. Students are assigned a specific day each week as their "Super Reader" day. They are to prepare a book of their choosing to share with a small group of their classmates. Each day the class is divided among the readers for the day and they find a comfortable spot in the classroom to read. After the reader is done, each person in the group (including the reader) completes a book report. I use the completed reports to assess students' comprehension of the material and I also send them home with the reader as a keepsake of their special reading day. I have seen great improvement in my students' reading comprehension and oral reading skills thanks to the Super Reader program. I have also uploaded the book report form the students use; you can find this by searching my name (John Blake) or "Super Reader Book Review."
