Symmetry is a skill that usually begins being taught in second grade and is reviewed through the upper elementary school grades. In this activity students are required to decorate a cookie so that it is symmetrical. Students use various materials, like Skittles, Nerds and Hershey Kisses to be able to make their end product. After students decorate their cookies, they must explain how they know that their cookie is symmetrical and what they were thinking while creating the cookie to make sure that it turned out symmetrical.
