Looking for a way to give Thanksgiving a more global focus? Here's the plan for you! Help your students learn more about Ghana, China, and the Cherokee tribe by looking at the harvest celebrations of those cultures. Since the focus is feasting and food, the informational text is presented along with a placemat that has been inspired by the culture. Students read the text and then demonstrate comprehension by placing pictures of food onto the placemat.
The 18 food pictures are original clip art as are the visually appealing placemats.
There is a 16 slide Power Point Presentation that can help present this as a full class activity or it can tailored to run as a literacy center. The process for both is given in the 19 page lesson plan guide.
If you are a SmartBoard person, there's a Notebook version of this lesson which has some nice SmartBoard interactivity.
