I searched high and low for a basic, close reading test that would simply show me whether students did their outside-of-class reading of THE HUNGER GAMES, and I found that none existed that met my needs (detailed + easy to grade).
Thus, I made my own. I've created three 25-question, multiple-choice tests (Parts I, II, & III) to serve this purpose. To make a teacher's job easier, I've also included an answer key that includes the page number of the correct answer so you can defend the question to those GT/AP students who like to argue over every question on a test! :D
I have already tested these in my own classroom (9th graders) and found the tests to be valid and an accurate assessment of whether students read the novel. From the mouths of one of my students, "As long as you read the book, it's easy...if you didn't read it, you're screwed!"
Be sure to take a look at the example file to get an idea of the types of questions asked. This is a Microsoft Word file so you can alter it to meet your needs, if necessary.
Thank you very much! Easy to grade is huge for me...especially since we have to spend so much of our time giving meaningful feedback on writing!
