I include an essay matrix for writing about the theme of the novel, as well as teacher suggestions for the various handouts, especially for the journal writing. Students are guided through idea gathering and organizing, the structure of an essay and writing fluency. This coordinates with most 6 + 1 Traits.
A bookmark with suggested journal starters is included too.
A check list is attached for the RL components of Common Core of State Standards that are covered in this unit.

I bought this unit to help my tier 2 students get through Spirit Bear, which is a bit complicated for them. We did not get to the novel, but as I prepped for this unit, I found this unit easy to manipulate for my lower students. I will be using it next year with the new group of tier 2 freshman.

Hi, I am sorry I didn't list the chapters. Our books are divided into Part 1 -ch. 1-13 and Part 2 -ch. 14-28.
I mistakenly assumed everyone's books were like that.
Our kids LOVED that book - and especially some of the reluctant reader boys. Hope your students respond as well as ours. Arlene
