Table Topics are generic discussion topics meant for thoughtful group discussions after reading a short piece of text. There are 16 cards for fiction, 8 for nonfiction, and 8 for poetry. Simply print of the cards, cut them out, and give a card to a group for discussion. Talking helps students to better comprehend the text. The 11 pages in this packet includes instructions for carrying out this activity. The cards can also be used for whole group discussions, partner discussions, and book clubs or literature circles. The topic questions can be applied to a wide variety of texts on different grade levels. Recommended for 3rd grade and up.
