This is an excerpt from the novel "Girl in teh Moon Circle" by Samoan writer Sia Figiel. I use this as a short story in my classes. It describes the arrival of the first TV in the island nation of Samoa and the impressions it brings of the Palagi (whites/Europeans).
This 17 page file includes the full text of the excerpt just as it appears in the novel. It also includes a listing of Samoan terms with their English approximations.
A complete lesson is outlined with the resources attached.
Activities include:
Samoa fact sheet and questions
Cloze reading x2 for different ability classes
Three level guide (for inferencing)
Question sheet (based on Bloom's Taxonomy)
Question sheet (based on Solo Taxonomy)
Quiz task/assessment
