With the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, I have been busy making sure I teach each part of the core. I have compiled all of my lessons that I use as mini-lessons to either introduce {whole-group} or reinforce {small-group} that align with the CCSS. Hopefully this will help you get a grip on the Reading Literature part of the CCSS {ELA}. Please know that I will be making more of these lessons to go with the rest of the ELA Common Core. Enjoy!

Comes in color and black/white!

*Question Words Necklace
*Sticky Notes Retell
*5 Finger Retelling
*The 5 Senses of a Story or Poem
*Informational/Narrative Double Bubble Organizer
*Informational vs. Narrative Sort
*Who is Speaking?
*Compare and Contrast {books}
*Compare and Contrast {characters}
*Story Elements Posters

*Although this is aligned to the CCSS for 1st Grade Reading Literature, this would be a perfect review for 2nd grade or intro to your higher kindergartners.

I love your product (all of your products)! I was wondering if you can make posters for problem and solution. It would be so helpful.

Thanks for the info about senses of a story. Have you included actual lesson plans for all of the graphic organizers I see in the preview?

I'm not selling full lesson plans, but yes there are instructions for each of the graphic organizers for mini-lessons {if that makes sense}. :) Hope this helps!

This unit looks wonderful! I've never heard of the 5 senses of a story. Would you please explain that to me? I have included my email, if that's easier.
Thanks!!!

Hi Lisa,
Here is the Standard from the Common Core State Standards for 1st grde:
RL.1.4
Identify words and phrases in
stories or poems that suggest
feelings or appeal to the senses.

In this activity, the teacher reads a story or poem and together {with the students} write words or phrases that appeal to the senses.

Hope this helps!
