This is a comprehensive book group packet based on the novel A Taste of Blackberries. It features guiding questions for students to complete either independently or with teacher support and discuss during guided reading lessons.
This novel unit integrates technology and allows students to look up such topics, such as grief and bee sting allergies, that come throughout the book.
The novel unit has 4 sections which cover 2 chapters each, and I generally have the kids complete one section a week, so the unit can be completed in 4 weeks.
Questions cover a variety of topics, such as theme, figurative language, point of view, vocabulary building, and much much more. It mixes questions that vary in levels of Bloom's Taxonomy and ask students to really think about their reading.
The beauty of this packet is that as a soft copy you will be able to adjust for different levels and add to or take away from the packet as much as you'd like. Vocabulary questions might have to be adjusted to make the page numbers fit the specific books you are using.
This is a fabulous and engaging book that would work well as an end of 3rd grade, beginning of 4th grade, or remedial 5th grade novel unit.
I have been searching for a good literature guide for this book and was very pleased to have found this one. Thanks for doing the hard work, so that we may enjoy it easily during our reading workshop time. I am excited to begin using this guide.
