This is a 264 slide PowerPoint presentation with built-in class notes (red slides), many video links, challenge questions and answers, mammal orders worksheet, and plenty of information about a student created mammal poster project. Also included is a one page homework sheet with additional page to collect info from projects, and lesson notes.

Areas of Focus within this PowerPoint: This PowerPoint begins discussion Mammal evolution and shows neat pictures of Therapsids, and oldest mammal fossils, K-T Extinction Event and rise / radiation of Mammals, Orders of Mammals / Tree of Mammal Evolution, Interesting Facts about Mammals - Smallest (Pgmy Shrew, Largest Blue Whale, flying mammals and more) Link to the song Mammal by TMBG song by Cactus Joe - Students are instructed to record pieces of information from the song. Discussion to follows after song. The three subclasses of mammals are then described for notes (red slide) Discussion about a placenta and some pictures (Middle level students are introduced to the plancenta that is always interesting) PowerPoint also describes marsupials and continental drift / Australia. Some focus is placed on the Opossum. Discussion about how Eutherian Mammals are better suited to survive over Marsupials. After a brief presentation about Portheria (egg laying mammals) the PowerPoint describes the characterisitcs of Mammals with many visuals. -Have Hair, General Warm-bloodedness, Mammary Glands, Circulatory system / four chambered heart, Large Lungs, unique reproductive system, fat and energy storage, large brains, salivary glands, sweat glands, heterodonty, highly plastic muscular system, hinged jaw, and more. An activity has students record the order of mammal next to pictures of mammals. Information about the orders of mammals are provided so students just need to read / skim the various orders to find the answer. It is a bit difficult at first, but then the students figure out the process and move through the worksheet quickly. A mammal poster project is then framed and worksheet provided.

This PowerPoint includes critical notes (Red Slides), exciting visuals, challenge questions, activities with directions and more. Text is usually placed at the top of the slide so it can be read from all angles of a classroom. Color coded slides, as well as a shade technique is used to increase student focus and allows the teacher to control the pace of the lesson. These PowerPoints are meant to be interactive as possible and ask many questions, provides built in review opportunities, explains directions to activities, and much more.
