This is a viewing guide for the 2004 movie version of the Alamo. It begins by requiring the students to write down the problems of the major characters in the settlement of Texas, then gives a series of questions based on the events of the movie, and culminating in a few questions that compare actual history with the movie depictions.

You can easily use this viewing guide as a culmination activity for a unit on the Texas revolution, or as an introduction with subsequent investigative homework.

This assignment lends itself to higher order thinking activities very well.

Note: there is no answer key included (there really is none necessary for anyone who has viewed the movie and is roughly familiar with the events it recreates)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught for ten years. For the first three of those years, I taught special education English in a junior high school. I then moved to junior high U.S. history. I taught AP European History at the local high school for four years before switching to AP World History (which I continue to do). Additionally, I teach U.S. history at a local residential treatment center (where I am also their special education director).
