This lesson begins by asking students to consider the meaning of the words “rights” and “obligations.” Students then develop their own lists of ten rights, to which they believe all people are entitled. Next, students consider The Bill of Rights, The Code of Hammurabi, and the Bible, interpreting laws contained within the texts pertaining to rights and obligations. Students then consider the most common punishments levied by American courts in response to individuals who deprive others of their rights or do not fulfill their obligations. Finally, students reflect on the evolution of the ways within which societies think about rights and obligations.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My experience as a camp administrator and school teachers have both influenced my content development work. Students have to have a good time while they are learning or it'll be difficult to learn. I have worked with pre-schoolers, elementary school students, middle school students, high school students and post college graduates.
