The Core at Home is a resource to help parents understand the Common Core Standards related to literacy. (K-5 ELA Anchor Standards)

In this packet you'll find the following resources...

1. A letter to parents explaining the Common Core Standards, and outlining the important role parents play in helping their children meet the standards.
2. An overview of the Common Core Language Arts and Literacy Anchor Standards for parents.
3. A parent's guide: A small, portable guide filled with simple ideas to help reinforce the Language Arts and Literacy standards at home. It includes sample questions to ask during home reading time, games to play that review key literacy skills, suggestions for family writing activities, and fun language and vocabulary ideas.

This resource is designed to help you support parents as they reinforce the standards at home through fun and practical "real-life" activities and literacy routines.

The Core at Home focuses on the anchor standards, rather than the standards specific to each grade level. It's general so parents will establish literacy routines that reinforce the standards early in elementary school, and continue them, (expecting higher levels of understanding), as their child moves through the grades.

If you're interested in my other Core at Home products, you can buy them together in a bundle to save money.

Thank you for your interest in my products!

Does this packet have suggestions for every standard at a certain grade level? ...or general common core suggestions for multiple grade levels? Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for asking!
This packet contains activities tied to the anchor standards, so they are more general. I did this so families can use it year after year and build these activities into their home reading routine. (It's also handy if parents have kids in multiple grade levels at once.)
The math version does list the content standards by grade level for reference, but the activities in that version relate to the math process standards, so they're general as well.
Thanks so much for your interest!

Hi Little Red, I'm so sorry but I'm not taking new pinners at this time. I'm trying to keep the board small so it doesn't get crazy.
I love your store, btw!
Also, thanks for letting me know about my email link. I wonder what's going on.
Again, sorry about the board!

I LOVE you Core at Home and want to share it with my parents, however, 50% or more of my students are spanish--do you have this translated or a Spanish version I could buy?

Hi Diane,
First of all, thank you so much! I'm glad to hear you like it!
It's not available in Spanish at this time. I wish I could do it. You aren't the first to ask, so I will look into the logistics of having it translated. For now though, the answer is unfortunately no.
Thanks for taking the time to ask!

Erin this packet is exactly what I am looking for! I have a question about sharing this resource with parents. I have a class website that is only visible to members - the parents of my students. Would it be alright to post this resource on my class website for the parents to download? I want to make it convenient for parents but I also want to respect your copyright.

Thanks! Anna

Hi Anna,
It's absolutely fine for you to post it on a protected site. It's also fine to make copies and hand them out to the parents. I appreciate you taking the time to ask!

Hi, Erin,
I just purchased your The Core at Home packet. First of all, it is a wonderful resource for parents. Thank you! I plan to share it with my parents. Also, may I have your permission to share this during a presentation for parent involvement? I just want to show them a good resource to send home to parents on Parent Night. Thanks again.

Verschello, Thank you so much! I would love for you to show the document to other teachers. If they want to purchase, be sure to let them know that TpT now has the option to purchase multiple copies at a significant discount. (That option is now available in the checkout process.) Thanks for helping me spread the word about this product!

First of all, thank you so much for your purchase! Try this: Download the latest version of Adobe Reader. If you are on a Mac, do not open with Preview. It will not work. Download the most updated version of Adobe Reader and open the PDF with it (and not Preview). If you still have problems, email me at erinfw@ihmail.com or respond again here. That should do the trick though!

Thank you!! Unfortunately I don't have one for math yet. I know I need to get going on that! :) I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it. I think it would be harder to do a general document for math that works for kids in grades K-5 like I did with the ELA standards. Anyway, I'm sorry I don't have one available right now! I know that would be handy for back to school.

My team loves your "Core At Home" ideas! Would it be possible for us to copy it to send home with parents at a Welcome Night? We reviewed the copy right statement at the end of the document and wanted to ask for more clarification. Thanks!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it!
Anyone who purchases the document is welcome to send the packet home to parents in his/her own class each year. I created it for that purpose--To be a guide parents can use at home. So yes, I think it would be awesome if you sent it home at Welcome Night!
The copyright statement is there to prevent people from claiming it as their own, or distributing to teachers school or district-wide. Thank you so much for taking the time to double check! :)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 10 years of teaching experience in the elementary grades, and 8 years as a parent. I'm passionate about creating products that combine what I know about education from both perspectives. Before staying home with my three young boys, I taught grades 3-6. I also subbed in grades K-12. I currently blog at www.smalltypes.com, where I exercise my "teacher brain" by sharing tips for parents to help them create a print-rich home. I keep up with best practices through continuing education; I volunteer in my sons' classrooms; and like most parents, I do plenty of after-school teaching to support my own kids' learning at home.
