Materials for The Declaration, the first novel in Gemma Malley's popular Declaration series for young adults.
Dystopian young adult novels, such as the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, are becoming more and more popular among middle school and high school students. I've created a series of quizzes and reviews for some of these more modern novels, and give my students a choice of novels for independent reading while we're reading George Orwell's 1984 in class. Reading the classic novel and the more modern novel side-by-side helps the students understand Orwell's political message better as well as understanding that books, even enjoyable ones, can be used to send a message about society.
This Microsoft Word document contains two quizzes: the first quiz contains 20 character matching and plot multiple choice questions for the first half of the novel. The second quiz is a 20-question multiple choice quiz on the second half of the novel. The questions are mostly fact and plot-based, with a few inference questions.
The file also contains a set of more personal discussion questions to be completed after the first half of the novel, and a review sheet to be completed at the end of the novel.
Answer keys are included for the multiple choice quizzes. Answers for the discussion questions and review chart may vary.
