The Devil's Arithmetic is a novel dealing with the Holocaust. It is an excellent book, but it is also graphic and disturbing. Even though the reading level is for 5th and 6th graders, I would not suggest it for anyone younger than 7th grade.
My study guide addresses the comprehension skills of drawing conclusions, making inferences, remembering details, interpreting text, sequencing, and determining cause and effect. There are questions for every chapter and a vocabulary list with page numbers.
I have included 27 pages of background information for the teacher on Passover and the Holocaust. These should not be distributed to the students as the material was taken directly from the Internet.
