A fun, ready-to-use crossword puzzle to review comprehension of students who have completed reading The Dreamer, by Pam Munoz Ryan. Included is also an answer key. The Dreamer in a nutshell:
Pam Munoz Ryan is known for her inspiring multicultural books for young people, and this book is no exception. The Dreamer is a fictionalized biography about the Nobel Prize winning poet, Pablo Neruda. Poetry, art, and prose combine to tell the tender story of Pablo's life growing up in a Chilean family ruled by his abrasive and intimidating father. Labeled as absentminded and idiotic, Neftali (who later changed his name to Pablo) was a lover of words and dreams while at the same time a shy and tongue-tied stutterer. This compelling story is sometimes heartwrenching, sometimes heartwarming, yet always full of hope. It is bound to inspire every one who reads it.

My 20-plus years of teaching included 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades in Colorado, California, New Jersey, and Illinois. I've recently retired and now find myself as busy as ever! While I taught I loved creating meaningful and stimulating worksheets for my students, especially literature packets...but finding the time for it was always a challenge. Now I can spend a significant amount of time creating and publishing to help other teachers who are too busy teaching to have time to create as well!
