Hi, "Smart Chick,"
Your Historical Figure Facebook activity cracked me up, and think it's a brilliant tool. However, I am wondering how to use it. I downloaded it and tried to work with it, but I'm having "operator error" problems. I'm an active FaceBook user, so I'm familiar with the concepts, but am having trouble entering stuff on the form.
Can you please help me out? Thanks so much. I love the concept and am excited to put this resource to use. Thanks for making it available!

Posted on: March 6, 2010
Reply by: Smart Chick (s)
do you mean age 8 or in 8th grade? It would not be as useful for an 8th grade child as it would for a younger child. If your child is in 8th grade, you should look for more middle to high school resources, this book is really geared to younger grades though is says k-8. Hope this helps!

I purchased your Midnight Magic projects on another cite. My school is compiling a book of lesson plans related to Avi in preparation for his author visit. I was approached to include these projects in the book to dstribute to district teachers, but I wanted to check and see if it was okay with you first. If so, how would you like to be cited?

Dannsullivan(c) re: Boston Tea Party Experiment
What is the purpose of this experiment? We could not find enough information in the downloaded version to make sense of the experiment. What are you trying to demonstrate or prove?
Posted on: March 1, 2010
Reply by: Smart Chick (s)
We wondered what happened to the tea when it was dumped into the harbor during the historical event. Students connected what they observed in the two labs to making an inference about what happened to the tea when it was in the water. The first lab is to see the difference between salt and fresh water and the second lab tested the different temperatures of water. Knowing that during the actual Boston Tea Party, it was salt water and it was cold, students then made conclusions based on their observations. Email me if you need any additional info. indiansprings18@yahoo.com

No, I usually don't include answer keys since I don't need them to grade the questions. If you read the book, the questions are easy to grade. Plus, many would say "answers will vary", since they require student justification and reasoning. There are at least 8 short answer questions for each chapter, with there being more for Ch. 7 due to its length.

I usually don't make answer keys since I don't use them to grade the questions. Usually, if you read the book, the questions are easy to answer, most are opinion based or require justifications which would mean they could vary quite a bit.

They are all short answer, most with several questions in one. There is not an answer key since many answers will work, they just have to explain or justify your thinking.

There are nine sections of questions, all short answer, eight pages have 8 questions each, and one page has seven questions. There is not an answer sheet since most of the questions can have more than one answer or explanation that can be acceptable.

No, quite a few have multiple answers or ask students to give their opinions about an event or action in the story. They are all short answer quesitons, no multiple choice.
