This package provides students with everything they need to complete a Novel Study on The Giver! A complete unit - just print and teach!!!
All activities are classroom tested and include creative handouts, templates, and detailed instructions!
This creative and engaging package includes the following:
-Comprehension Questions: A complete set of comprehension questions for the novel.
-Response Journal Questions: A full page of Response Journal Questions to go along with the novel. These can be used as pre-reading activities, bonus work, etc.
-Pre-Reading Activity: A creative pre-reading activity to get students thinking about what they are going to read. Students reflect on the topic of “Utopia”, and brainstorm ideas of their own.
-Community Pamphlet Project: Students read about the community in the giver, and create a pamphlet to help advertise it.
-Create Your Own Community Project: After reading about the creative community in The Giver, students create communities of their own. A great creative writing project that really lets students think “outside of the box”. The completed projects make gorgeous hallway displays!
-Setting Foldable Library Pockets: Students create a library pocket style foldable describing the setting of the novel. Students cut out, fold, and glue the library pocket together. Students then describe the setting on the included lined paper sheet, and insert the sheet into the library pocket. The square with the setting title gets glued on the front, with a student illustration of the setting. Students love this activity because it is hands on and different. Teachers love this activity because the completed library pockets are both beautiful and informative. A library pocket template is included!
-Elements of Literature Notes: No novel study is complete without information on the Elements of Literature. Several pages of information relating to each element (conflict, foreshadowing, etc.) are organized into an easy to read table. A blank student version is included. These notes can be applied to ANY novel or short story!
"The Giver" is one of my favorite books of all time. I've read it at least 4 times. I'm so glad to see a creative bundle of lessons to accompany this wonderful book!
Thank you for sharing this unit with us as a freebie. It is very complete, I particularly like the response journal and comprehension questions!
