PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This eighteen-page resource for teaching Lois Lowry's 1994 Newbery Medal Winner begins with an alphabetical listing of one hundred and ten vocabulary words taken from the full novel text along with their page numbers. Next, for teacher convenience, is a series of chapter-by-chapter word lists with definitions that present the targeted vocabulary words in story order and identify their location by page number. Each word list is coupled with companion student worksheets that require interpretive use of a dictionary. The pages are designed to be used BEFORE reading so that students will have some knowledge of the words when they encounter them again in story context. The final portion includes word usage or analysis activities that may be assigned BEFORE or DURING the reading process. Full keys are included.

Product Questions & Answers

On  October 14, 2012A Perfectly Poetic Page (TpT Seller) asked:
Hi Margaret. I just read your copyright information and had a question. For an activity I create for a picture book, am I able to do a screenshot of the cover or not? I see you have Literature Packs. Did you just make/download a clip art image for that? Thanks in advance for answering my question. I hope to hear from you. ~Tracy (A Perfectly Poetic Page)

Hi Tracey,
Sorry to say that cover images of books are copyrighted by the publisher and/or author. Including it as part of your activity would be a copyright infringment. I subscribe to two clipart services that I go through each time I need to create a cover for one of my novel teaching packs. I look for something that relates to the book's theme, a character, or something that happened in the story. Then I design a cover around that. For my huge novel teaching packs, I use a colorful design (no clipart) that acts like a template so that all I have to do is change the title of the book.

Please come back if you have any more questions.
