Are you tired of answering the question, "What do we do when we're done?" The Early Finishers Board will provide your students with fun and engaging tasks to complete when they finish their work. The board is divided into seven sections: Read It, Write It, Solve It, Draw It, Do It, Make It and Journal It. Students will choose a task from any section and complete it in their Early Finishers Notebook.

Every two weeks, the teacher will switch the tasks in each section so that there are a new set of tasks to complete.

This is a really great product. The only problem I am having this first year of implementation is that it takes a long time to get it ready. I think this summer I will spend some time preparing them by weeks so that I can just pull out a file and everything will be ready to go within in. :)

I tried out the Halloween early finisher board in my classroom and my students couldn't get enough of it! I knew that I had to grab this pack too. I use it as morning work and it is absolutely perfect. They really love being able to choose their activity, while the variety and difficulty level keeps them engaged.

Holy wow. In my first formal observation my principal told me that I do a great job differentiating for my ELL and my SPeD kiddos, but need to work on my GT kids.

Then I find this product. I thought that I could buy this and find a FEW things that I could provide my students.

I was so pleasantly surprised to find that I can use EVERYTHING! I am so excited to add this to my classroom tomorrow morning I can't hardly stand it!

Ms. Gray has thought of everything Marzano would have wanted us to think about..and I can tell you to implement anything mid year....this is the product to implement!

KUDOS to an amazing product!

What an amazing resource. I can't get it made fast enough. What type of store sells the tri-fold board? I'm not sure where to find one in Australia.
On  March 3, 2014Shelley Gray answered:
Hi there! I get them at the local office store (Staples) but I have also seen them at Wal-Mart. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the store chains that you have in Australia, but I would check an office store. Also, you can just use a small bulletin board or piece of wall space in your classroom. This blog post offers many different alternatives to the tri-fold board (just copy and paste into your browser):

Can you tell me if you based the work off of the Common Core Standards?

On  March 23, 2014Shelley Gray answered:
Hi Jamie. I did use the standards when creating the board. Not everything will align exactly but you will find that most of it will.

Thanks for your interest,

On  August 15, 2013simplykelly (TpT Seller) asked:
Shelley,
I purchased the early finisher board at the end of the school last year. I have not used or set up the board....over the summer I was moved from 3rd to 5th grade. Is there a possibility of switching the grade level versions? If not I will just purchase the 5-6 version. Thank you. KHB

On  August 15, 2013Shelley Gray answered:
Hi there! I sell the Early Finisher Combo Pack (both versions) for $24.99, so what I can do is sell you the 5-6 version for $5.00, since you already paid $19.99 for the 1-4 version. If you would like to go ahead with this, please email me at shelley_gray_@hotmail.com along with your TpT username and *approximate* date of purchase and I will let you know how we can proceed.

Thanks very much,

Shelley
On  August 9, 2013PowerPoint Maniac (TpT Seller) asked:
Hi Shelley,
I've seen and heard about your early finisher boards many times. I have a 40 minute time slot every day where about 10 students stay in the room instead of chorus/band. It previously was at the very end of the day and so they had a study hall. This year it is in the morning so they won't really have homework. I'm wondering if you thought this would work for 30 - 40 minutes?
Teachers Pay Teachers
On  August 9, 2013Shelley Gray answered:
Hi Jason! I am flattered that you are thinking of using it :) I think it definitely would work. The only thing is that you will move through it quicker. Most teachers switch out the tasks every two weeks, but you will likely be switching them more often if students are working on it for that long every day. I wonder if you could have something else on the go as well? Or maybe try it for a week or two and add some center activities or something if students are moving through too quickly? If you do decide to use it, I would love to hear how you make out!

Hi Shelley,
This is a fantastic idea!! Well done. I teach grade 7 in Australia. Just wondering if you think the 5-6 board activities would be appropriate? My class is on the upper end of average academically.

Hi Kate! Thanks for your question. I think they are probably a bit too young for grade 7 students, especially if they are upper average. Sorry about that!

On  July 11, 2013,  Megan T. asked:
Hello! I love your product, it will make my class amazing! Here are a few questions that popped up:
1. Are the curriculum related tasks aligned to common core?
2. In the preview it states (last page) that if you buy all 40 weeks then you get $10 off, thus making your $19.99 purchase only $9.99, is that accurate?

Thank you for your time!
Teachers Pay Teachers
On  July 11, 2013Shelley Gray answered:
Hi there! The tasks are not directly taken from the Common Core, but most of the activities naturally correlate with the standards.

The $10 off refers to the fact that if you were to buy all of the weeks separately, it would cost you $29.99. The $19.99 is already the discounted price for buying the entire 40 weeks together.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.

Have a great day,

Hello! This looks like a great resource! I only teach math though and I realize this product is listed as ELA and math. Do you know approximately how many activities are related to math? Does each rotation include about the same number of math and ELA prompts or does it vary every rotation? Thank you for your help!

On  May 26, 2013Shelley Gray answered:
Hi Jade. I tried to keep it fairly equal, although I would say that the ELA outnumbers the math by a bit.

Hi there! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I recently moved and am still trying to locate my external hard drive where my older files are stored! Can you email me at shelley_gray_@hotmail.com and I will email you a larger preview file once I find my hard drive? Thanks so much!

I was wanting to know if your 5-6 version would be too challenging for 4th graders. Is your 1-4 geared more toward primary? Thanks!

Hello,

Im a teacher in 4th grade, do you reccommend the 1-4 or the 5-6th version? I just did not want it to be too easy. Thank you! :)

Hi there! Thanks for your interest. If you have a regular 4th grade class with some students below level, I would go with the 1-4 version, as it is very open to differentiation. If you have a high level class then the 5-6 version would likely be great. You can also get both versions for $24.99 if you'd like, which works out to $5 for the second version. If you take a look at this blog post there is a bit more information about this:

If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

In this pack are the labels for the board included? Yours looks so great and that is why I ask! Thanks!

Hi Jen! Yes, the labels for each section are included. You will need your own letters for the title though (I'm Done! Now What?) I just used bulletin board letters for mine :)

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with,

I am sorry. I thought this was going to be all math as that is all that I teach. I would like to return it. What steps do I need to take?

Hi Donna. This product is marked as a English Language Arts and Math product. Additionally, the description and the free preview outlines that there are Language Arts components included. Returning a digital product is somewhat difficult, as you already have the files. I certainly want to be responsive to your concerns and I value each customer immensely, but the product is clearly marked as ELA. That being said, I will refer you to TpT Support. If you ask them they may have a solution for you. Please let me know if there is any other way that I can help you out.

Just copy and paste this link into your browser and fill out a support ticket. The support team is generally very quick answering questions/concerns.

Hi Shelley! I love your products- I also appreciate all of the work you do! I had previously ordered the Gr 5 & 6 Early Finisher Board week 1-8. I remember seeing something that, if we wanted to purchase the whole package, all 40 weeks, once it came out that the price could be adjusted. I have been checking back to see if you had uploaded it. However, things have been crazy with the start of school and I may have missed the deadline for it. Is that offer still going on?

Hi there! Yes, I had Weeks 9-40 on sale for a few days right after I posted them, which was a few weeks ago. However, I totally understand the craziness and will definitely still honor the sale price for you. Could you email me at shelley_gray_@hotmail.com and we will work something out?

Thanks!

Shelley,
First...thank you for all the work you do to help those of us who are not as creative. I really appreciate what you do.
Secondly, do you assess any of the work that students complete. Do you require students to complete a certain number of activities per 2 weeks? Maybe you can explain how to make students more accountable for work they do from the board. I'm also thinking of using this for some MI or differentiation activities. Since I've only seen your preview, any suggestions you can share would be helpful. Looking forward to hearing from you, Therese Scifres, Morton, IL

Hi Therese! Thank you so much for your kind words. My intent with the Early Finisher Board is simply to provide engaging activities to students who finish their work. Therefore, I don't necessarily recommend setting an expectation as to how many need to be completed. Some of your students might get through every activity on the board, and some might only do one. That is okay! As far as assessment goes, because of my personal philosophy of assessment, I would not recommend marking all of the activities. First of all, it would too much time on your part. Second of all, I don't believe that everything that students do should be marked. That being said, you will want to check in with students to ensure that they are on the right track. You could do this simply by observation, or you could plan to meet with students one a week or so to check in with them. Another idea is to meet with groups of 4 or 5 students so that they can show each other which Early Finisher activities they've been working on and share their ideas/answers. These are my own ideas. However, depending on your students/classroom you may have to set other expectations/routines. There is really no right way to do it...it just comes down to what works in your classroom.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks so much for your interest. Have a great week,

Shelley
