This is a 20 page workbook to accompany the story "The Great Ball Game" by Joseph Bruchac. Skills covered include: author's purpose, context clues, consonant clusters, digraphs, comparing/contrasting, compound words, punctuation and quotation marks, summarizing, syllables, multiple meaning words, fact/opinion, parts of speech, synonyms/antonyms, true/false, singular and plural nouns, homophones, verb tense, analogies, vocabulary, pronouns, making connections, subject/predicate, reference materials, main idea of a page, sentence combining, correct word order in sentences, alphabetical order, spelling, suffixes, sequencing, reality/fantasy, alternate endings, character change, story elements, and cause and effect. This has been an invaluable tool in covering state standards and helping my students with comprehension and numerous language arts skills. The page numbers referenced in this workbook correspond to the story in the Houghton Mifflin® Anthology "Delights" from their California Reading program. If you are using another version of "The Great Ball Game", this will still be useful to you, but you may have to modify a few things. If you like this product, check out my workbooks for other stories in the "Adventures" and "Delights" anthology books.
