This document includes everything you need to teach the classic poem "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes. First, it includes a before-reading activity and lesson plan where a student "scene" is set up (with props) and a prediction is made on a worksheet. Students are engaged and excited by this activity, and it's a necessary component of good readers to preview the setting, etc.!
Second, there is a during-reading activity (and worksheet packet), where students have different tasks to complete BEFORE and AFTER reading various stanzas. This keeps them engaged and comprehending the entire time. They may draw pictures, be asked to look up words in the dictionary, answer questions, etc. It's all in the packet!
Finally, there are two after-reading homework assignments, including a worksheet looking at various literary elements and then a handout for a writing assignment. The writing assignment gives examples and is organized in such a way for the student to write an opinion and then back that opinion up! Perfect for standardized test prep for persuasive essays, as well.
The lesson will take at least 2 hours and it is extremely detailed and thorough! The document is in pdf format, but please email me if you would like a Word document to edit.
Agreat resource and exactly what I have been searching for. Could an answer sheet be provided? I am very happy with the overall product especially the neat and accurate presentation.

Thank you for the product, it really helped me in a pinch. I do wish an answer sheet came along with the product.
I have taught language arts to both seventh- and eighth-grade students for over five years now. I have spent hours upon hours creating and fine-tuning my lesson plans, so that they are engaging and effective!
