Too difficult for my third grade group!
On  February 20, 2013CommonCoreQuestions answered:
Thanks for the feedback Scotte. We field-tested this CCQ Assessment Packet with 4th grade special education students who were reading at an upper 2nd grade/lower 3rd grade level. We experienced the same problem as you.

Our students and some parents felt that the CCQ Assessment was too difficult. We worked on scaffolding and modeling one or two questions a day for several weeks in guided reading groups to explain the higher level thinking that is required to answer these types of questions. As a result, our classified students’ reading scores improved tremendously. Our students began to realize that they needed to read more closely to answer these types of questions. We wish you and your students the best.

Very formal, but great for expanding traditional questions for a text.
On  January 27, 2013CommonCoreQuestions answered:
Thanks for your feedback - our number one goal is to give teachers a wide range of higher-order thinking questions to ask their students. Also, we aim for a degree of formality to help students realize that creativity in literary studies comes from well-crafted questions and responses, rather than from clipart.

We hope that you enjoy using our questions with your students!

I appreciate that you're aligning common core to different reading books.
On  November 15, 2012CommonCoreQuestions answered:
Thanks for your feedback. As teachers ourselves, we found that most Common Core-aligned resources were for short passages, rather than for the novels our students were reading. That's what led us to create aligned questions for the books we use in class. We hope you and your students enjoy using our questions too!
