This product was designed to teach my ESOL students about the Olympics from ancient to modern times. Includes a little information about the 2012 Olympics, but I will update it after so that this can be used in future years as well.
Students read an article, identify key words, and then use those key words to re-tell the article to a partner and write a short summary. There are three leveled readings from 660 lexile to 800 lexile. Also included is a compare/contrast activity that helps students compare and contrast the ancient Greek Olympics with our modern Olympic Games.

Very clever! I will definitely use the Olympic activities to tie it into our Ancient Greece unit.

Thank you! I love that it's leveled (differentiated), and the whole class can learn the same lesson and do the activity. I'm going to use the Olympics activities to then maybe get into Greek Mythology and the Percy Jackson series.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Before coming to Maryland, where I currently teach grades K-5, focusing mostly on 2nd and 4th, I was in North Carolina teaching ESL Language Arts primarily to grades 6-8. While working on my MS in ESL Education at the University of Tennessee, I did student teaching with grades K-8 in Sevierville, TN. I have also been invited to Busan, S. Korea, twice to conduct 2 week teacher training seminars on Content Based English Instruction for English language learners, and I am SIOP trained as well. In addition to my MS, I also have a degree in Spanish and Mass Communications.
