This workbook is to go along with the book entitled: The Orphan at Ellis Island by Elvira Woodruff (available through scholastic). It is a great book that deals with the thoughts and emotions of immigrants coming over to Ellis Island. The workbook is compiled with comprehension questions, vocabulary activities, work with parts of speech, writing activities, and art activities. It is 36 pages long and includes a plan of sequence for instruction (based on at least 30-45 minutes worktime each reading session.
Very thorough with the variety of activities. Definitely appeals to a lot of learning types while covering the book thoroughly.

Lots of great activities to compliment the book! I do like the language/vocabulary aspect also. This is the 3rd year we've read this book and I've just been creating my own lessons as we go. This is a nice addition.

Pretty good overall...a few grammar errors that are easily fixed. The format is great and it enables you to tweek it as you like. Also, it's consistent in the sense that students do similar tasks throughout the workbook. Finally, it has the feeling of authenticity- not like a Houghton-Mifflin "workbook". I recommend it as a good starting point.

Great resource! Saves me time from creating one myself. I probably won't use everything...it is more than I need for my purposes...but always better to have a little more than not enough.

No, I am sorry the download does not currently include an answer key. It does however, follow the book very closely in order. So, if it is not a subjective answer the objective answer is easy to obtain.

Hello! I have been an elementary teacher for six years. My first year, I taught math and computers to third, fourth, and fifth graders.
