Outsiders 60's Lingo
This set of three worksheets that will introduce your students to the 1950's and 60's greaser lingo used in the Outsiders by SE Hinton. Quotes and passages are taken directly from the novel. Students first determine meaning through context and then try to come up with their own colorful modern day equivalents to each expression. I am always surprised at how few of the 60's expressions my students know and how even fewer of their modern expressions I am savvy to. It shows my age, I guess!
I use the first two worksheets while reading chapters 1 and 2. The students always connect to this wonderful story and this activity will help them make a connection to the era as well. Students use the worksheets as a springboard to doing mid novel projects connected to the language and expressions they learn. This activity packet contains

Although, Hinton's novel has such a universal theme...the slang and 60's genre needed these worksheets to help give kids the big picture.
