As a supplement and assessment for student comprehension, this in-depth power point contains notes for the student covering: the elements of humor, activities for text structures and writing, 20 questions for students to answer in small groups before bringing their responses to a whole class discussion for a recap on the elements studied and questions asked.
There is also a chart for the 3 types of irony, a chart for other humor elements, and the answer key to comprehension questions.
Areas of focus are Elements of Humor: Irony (Verbal, Situational, Dramatic), Exaggeration, Understatement, and Surprise.
This power point serves as a reading check or assessment tool for the teacher's use, provides small group activity creating reading response charts, small and whole group discussions, and provides activities in applying text structures for composing writing in connection with the story.
This is a great reading response lesson for literacy centers, individual assignments, assessing comprehension, and generating good discussion.

Most of my career spent in 7th - 8th grade English Language Arts; I've been in middle school for 8+ years. Taught 1 year each in K, 2nd, 5th Each has it's perks. I apparently enjoy the upper grades since I quickly moved up levels. I'm completing my 12th year with the end of this school year 2012-13...
