The Reading Race came from my desire to involve and encourage students in their reading development. These resources can be used at school or at home.

These pages are included:
Pages 3-4 Fluency Goal Bookmarks- I give my students a bookmark that has been copied on cardstock and laminated. We record their goals and then they use the bookmark for the rest of the week.
Pages 5-7 Fluency Logs- Students will read the same reading passage at three or four different times in the week and then record their fluency on the Reading Race Fluency Log. I usually use fluency passages from Reading A to Z with these logs. If your school does not offer access to these reading passages then these logs could be used with any other story.
Page 8 Fluency Progress Chart- Use this chart to keep track of each student's fluency progress.
Pages 9-10 Fluency Rewards- If students reach their fluency goal by the end of the week, they earn a Reading Race Reward.
Pages 11-25 Sight Word Reading Race- These lists contain the first 300 words of Fry's Instant Words. Students will practice their sight words and then their teacher or parent will assess their ability to read them quickly. As students read the list, vary the order of the words. Record their progress at the bottom of the page. Download my free Take Home Sight Word Book for extra sight word practice.
Page 26 Reading Log- students take a reading log home in their book bag every day. Their parents fill out the date, book title, and amount of time spent read. Then, the parents initial the log.
Page 27 Reading Log Rewards- If the reading log is complete at the end of the month, students will earn a reading certificate.

I have seven years teaching experience. I have taught kindergarten for two years and first grade for five years. I am currently teaching kindergarten. At my school we loop with our students so next year I will have the same class for first grade. I love having the same class for two years!
