Use this unit to encourage your students to follow spelling patterns and use correct spelling. Post the poem, "The Spelling Bee" in your room. At random times, throughout the year, leave an award coupon to students who are using great spelling in their writing. Those students who are not doing so well get a stinger coupon. Leave these coupons after the students have left in the afternoon to keep them excited about spelling.
Use the included craftivity of the Spelling Bee to display in your room or in the hall. You might wish to copy The Spelling Bee poem on large chart paper or have the students copy individually in their best handwriting to display with their bees.
A variety of spelling rules are included for developing spellers to those who are ready for more challenges.
