This is a comprehensive book group packet based on the novel The Tiger Rising, by Kate DiCamillo. It features guiding questions for students to complete either independently or with teacher support and discuss during guided reading lessons.
This novel unit integrates technology and allows students to access online quizzes and look up topics related to the reading, such as the Sistine Chapel, and wildlife conservation.
The novel unit has 5 sections which cover 6 chapters each, and I generally have the kids complete one section a week, so the unit can be completed in 5 weeks.
Questions cover a variety of topics, such as theme, figurative language, symbolism, character motivation, vocabulary building, and much much more. It mixes questions that vary in levels of Bloom's Taxonomy and ask students to really think about their reading.
The beauty of this packet is that as a soft copy you will be able to adjust for different levels and add to or take away from the packet as much as you'd like. Vocabulary questions might have to be adjusted to make the page numbers fit the specific books you are using.
This is a fabulous and engaging book with endless levels of depth and understanding. The writing is incredibly intricate and provocative. It would work well as an end of 4th grade, beginning or middle of 5th grade, or lower 6th, 7th, or 8th grade study.
Thank you! It was just what I was looking for. I liked that I could modify it. When I taught this book before, we spent a few minutes looking at the cover. I talked to them about how dark it was. I was able to add my stuff with yours. I also liked the rubric at the start.

I really liked this information and its lay out. I am a teacher who believes in having my kids write about things versus answering closed questions and true/false questions. It suited my needs just fine. I do wish there were a few test ideas that came along with it.
Thank you for putting this together. It saved me a ton of time.

I am not impressed with this resource. It is just a packet of questions for the students to answer...so how is it a teacher resource? I expected it to be more structure/guidance for the teacher.
I'm sorry that you were not satisfied with your purchase. I thought I described what the product was accurately in the product description. A lot of hard work and time went into creating this resource. I am posting it here to save teachers the time and effort that it takes to create these resources themselves. It is a resource that you can easily pick up and use for guided reading without having to do much prep yourself.
