The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug comes to theaters this December. What better way to get ready for this event than reading The Hobbit! This is a vocabulary study using five different graphic organizers to teach vocabulary words from The Hobbit. There are words selected from each chapter in their own graphic organizer for students to use. Some of the organizers use pictures drawn by students or other non-linguistic representations such as hand motions to teach words. Many of the graphic organizers have a scale at the bottom of the page where students can rate their understanding of the word.
This download contains all definitions, as well as, part of speech for each word used. Over 90 pages of vocabulary to choose from. Use all the words or just a few. Thanks!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
15 years middle school science teacher. I have taught 8th grade physical science for 10 years, as well as, 5 years of 7th grade. In addition, I also tutor students who are learning disabled (dyslexia) in reading using an Orton-Gillingham based program.
