I looked high and low on the internet for a *general overview* and summary of the colonies when I was teaching it, and I could not find one anywhere. I created this spreadsheet to help me and my students keep all the colonies straight!

I have included date, country that started it, people who lived there, why it was started, where, important info, important people, and major city.

The level of detail is intended for a fifth grade audience, and I do not claim that this is in any way exhaustive. I'm aiming for the big picture of the colonies.

Because it is in Excel you can sort by date, region, name, etc. I tried very hard to make it printer-friendly, and I just couldn't do it. If you want a hard copy, you have to tape it together.

I have made it as correct as I can, using our history textbook and supplementary information from the internet. Some cells I left blank because I did not find anything notable to include there.
