Thunder Cake ~ Patricia Polacco ~ Language Arts Workbook ~ 2nd Grade

If you want to cover many of the new common core standards using old curriculum, this is a great solution!

This is a 23 page workbook to accompany the story "Thunder Cake" by Patricia Polacco. Skills covered include: author's purpose, context clues, comparing/contrasting, consonant clusters, digraphs, compound words, inferences, quotation marks and punctuation, summarizing, contractions, syllables, predicting, fact/opinion, parts of speech, singular and plural nouns, synonyms and antonyms, suffixes, multiple meaning words, true/false, homophones, reference materials, verb tense, sequencing, following directions, character analysis, story sequence, story organization, making connections, vocabulary, subject/predicate, pronouns, analogies, spelling, complete/incomplete sentences, ABC order, correct word order in sentences, guide words, soft and hard c and g, sentence types, vowel sounds, and cause and effect. This has been an invaluable tool in covering state standards and helping my students with comprehension and numerous language arts skills.

The page numbers referenced in this workbook correspond to the story in the Houghton Mifflin® Anthology "Delights" from their California Reading program. If you are using another version of "Thunder Cake", this will still be useful to you, but you may have to modify a few things.
