Originally requested to be written as part of an anthology, this author study and possible thematic unit includes summaries of Toni Cade Bambara's novels and most popular short stories. Follow up discussion questions, writing assignments, journals and projects follow each entry.

After teaching seventh and eighth grade Language Arts at a private school, I found it necessary to stay home with my children. Not yet ready to return to the classroom, but aching to stay atop trends in the field, I began volunteering at our local Alternative High School. I loved working with the students one-on-one and individualizing instruction. I was soon offered a position to help begin a preschool developing a classroom for 3 and 4 year olds. Through this, I am beginning to fully understand how important patience and finding ways to motivate and challenge students can be in impacting student learning!
