Teaching the transcendentalist philosophies of the Romantic Period can be a daunting task. This mini-unit will introduce students to the big ideas of the movement without taking up too much class time or bogging students down with a lot of literature. Using just selections from "Self-Reliance" by Emerson and "Walden" by Thoreau, students will complete an introductory, pre-reading, and review activity before taking a test (objective with one extended response/ essay question).
