This chart includes five categories of transition words and phrases to give their writing logical connections and make their writing pieces more coherent. This chart might also be enlarged and posted in the classroom for student reference.

Hi Paige! Glad this handout will work for you. I used it with 8th graders by posting an enlarged chart in my writing lab. I also made copies for each student so they could carry it in their writing folders and would also have access to it for their homework assignments. Good luck.

I'm glad this will work for you in your classroom. I also kept this posted in my writing class but also made a copy for each student to have in their writing folder. Thank you! I often inserted this into my students writing folders so that it was always a handy resource. If you have access it is also nice to laminate the chart so it doesn't become too tattered throughout the year. Although tattered is nice because then you know they are using it!!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
TEACHING EXPERIENCE My 30 years of teaching experience have been at the elementary and middle school levels, teaching in self-contained classes at 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. At the 6th grade level, I taught in a team concept and later taught 8th grade language arts at the middle school level. In addition to my teaching, I was involved with my local and state reading organizations holding positions within those organizations and also served as a state coordinator to the International Reading Association. I taught in a district where one of our teaching strategies was cooperative learning. As a result I authored two books, Cooperative Learning for Language Arts, Grades 7-12, Book 1 and Book 2, available online at Kagan Publishing.
