After reading "The Odyssey" by Homer, I have students use Microsoft Publish and create a tri-fold brochure using persuasive writing. I have created a PDF of all the forms. I have set up a template that the students can use with their own pictures and stopovers. I tell them to leave the text boxes in place and just replace the inside so their margins will be in the correct place for the folds. The sample includes a rubric and all the requirements. You can print out a blank template for students who do not have access to the program and they can draw and write in their details. I usually get some really remarkable brochures. You might want to show them what real travel brochures look like to help.

I have 35 years experience teaching English and Math in public, private schools and college. I have a MA in Reading, and credentials in English, Reading and mathematics. I have taught 6th grade through college. My emphasis has been on critical thinking skills, problem solving, literature and writing. My activities are often student centered.
